Global Warming

An illustration of a person in an orange puffy coat standing with their arms on a railing, looking at a melting glacier.

The following poem was written by our weekly writing group, The Green Walls Writer’s Project, in Zoom. Each person wrote a sentence about global warming and then we put them all together to form a powerful poem.

I watch the icecaps melt as if god had turned the heater on over the arctic.

Excuse me sir, hi, yes, I am from Earth, and we need your help.

Watching the ice melt, the oceans rise, with my hands tied behind my back.

The glistening of the melting glaciers shows the tears of the children who won’t get to appreciate them in their full glory.

Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruits.

To those who don’t believe the earth is slowly changing, I wonder who you will blame when in our dying days.

They say we have twelve years to fix everything or our cities will be underwater. However, I feel like that window is getting smaller and smaller as cars crowd the road and their exhaust pollutes the sky. However, I have a bit of hope left! But who will be the ones to save us? Batman? Superman? Or is it us?

Many do not realize the true value and worth of nature until it’s gone.
