WELLNESS
We invite you to find a prompt that sparks something within you, and then get to writing! You may write however you feel comfortable and open. Some people enjoy dimming the lights, or finding a quiet, comfortable, and peaceful place to focus. There are no rules to this practice, but perhaps setting an alarm for 20 or 30 minutes would be a nice place to start. As you continue with your practice, you will find ways to adjust and create your perfect individual experience.
While BRITE WRITE is a gift just for you, we have found that by sharing their work, some students have found the experience to be more impactful and empowering. If you choose to submit your work to us, please do so using the form below. We would love to publish you on our blog!
Prompt #26: Safety In the 21st century, it can sometimes feel hard to keep loved ones safe. We have technology, which can either be an advantage or a disadvantage. Sure, communication is easier, but so are things like bullying, abductions, and trafficking. Still, parents and guardians do the best they can to keep their kids safe, even in today’s world. What are some ways you can ensure your safety in 2020? How can you help keep those around you safe? What are some ways your loved ones can do the same?
Prompt #27: Sanctuary In life, it is important to have a sanctuary - a place or idea in your mind or in your home where you feel particularly safe. For BRITE intern Liz, it is her green bedroom walls, there in times of pain, joy, and sorrow, and growth, always sturdy, always welcoming. Think about your journey, your life, and your experience. Where do you go to feel peace and safety? What are your "green walls?" What is your sanctuary? If you don't have one yet, that's ok. What does your ideal sanctuary look like?
Prompt #28: The Feels - Emotions Feelings! Emotions! You’ve probably felt plenty of them. Maybe sometimes they are center stage, taking up all of you. Maybe other times they hide in disguise, waiting on the sidelines for an opportunity to creep up on you. This week, let’s pick an emotion, and write a letter to it. Writing a letter to an emotion can feel abstract -- “Dear Sadness, Dear Joy, Dear Unbridled Amusement”-- but sometimes, personifying something inhuman can make it easier to understand, to deal with, or to place. Perhaps you want to take this opportunity to practice your voice- how are you speaking to the feeling? Like someone you love? Like someone you used to love? Harshly, but with truth and boundaries? You can write to one emotion or many, one you’ve felt or one you haven’t, something simple or something complex. Remember, there are no rules! As long as you're writing, you're doing it right.
Prompt #29: What Got You Into Writing? Maybe it was that time you were bored in the back of a lecture. Maybe you were drawing comics in elementary school. Maybe this was the only coping mechanism that worked. Whatever the reason, we’re put on this earth to tell stories, and writing those stories is a gift we can give ourselves everyday. Stories of liberation, pain, peace, war, and beauty. These stories help us dream, and it is well known that if we don't dream, we die. So, I'll ask you, what inspires you to tell your story?
